Guidelines for Recreating Deceased Loved Ones’ Voices

Navigating grief is hard enough without having to figure out the rules of new technology. To help you use AI voice preservation safely and respectfully, we’ve compiled these simple guidelines.

The "Do's"

Do: Focus on Comfort

Use the voice to generate comforting messages. Simple phrases like "I love you," "I'm proud of you," or "Happy Birthday" can be incredibly meaningful.

Do: Involve the Family

Make the creation process a group activity. Go through old videos together to find the best audio samples. Share the final result in a supportive setting.

Do: Use High-Quality Audio

The better the input, the better the output. Look for videos where the person is speaking clearly, without too much background noise or music.

Do: Take Breaks

Listening to a recreated voice can be emotional. It’s okay to listen for a few minutes and then step away. You control the pace.

The "Don'ts"

Don't: Use it to Resolve Conflicts

Don't make the voice "apologize" for something the person didn't apologize for in life. It might feel like closure, but it’s a false closure that can complicate grief.

Don't: Surprise People

Never play an AI voice for someone without warning them first. Grief is sensitive. A surprise "phone call" from a deceased relative can be traumatic rather than comforting.

Don't: Overuse It

While helpful, the AI voice shouldn't replace other forms of remembering or coping. It is one tool in your toolkit, not the only one.

Don't: Ignore Your Gut

If something feels "off" or uncomfortable, stop. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. If this technology doesn't feel right for you, that is completely okay.

At EchoAgain, we are here to support you. If you’re ever unsure about how to use the tool, our support team is available to answer your questions and provide guidance.
